SAP BTP Is Now SAP Business AI Platform (BAIP): What Changes for You

SAP Business Technology Platform has a new name. Since SAP Sapphire in May 2026, BTP is part of the SAP Business AI Platform, short BAIP. SAP’s own admin consoles already show it: in SAP Cloud Identity Services, applications from a BTP subaccount now appear as “SAP BAIP solution”. If you run extensions or integrations on BTP, SAP has announced no migration. But the name in SAP’s documentation, partner programme and sales conversations is changing, and it pays to know what is behind it.

TL;DR: On 12 May 2026 SAP introduced SAP Business AI Platform, which unifies SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Business AI in one governed environment. The BTP services you use (Integration Suite, SAP Build, Cloud Foundry, Kyma, identity) continue under the new name. Technical identifiers such as the btp CLI and cockpit.btp.cloud.sap stay. No migration is needed; review contracts and documentation at your own pace.

What SAP announced, and when

SAP announced the new platform on 12 May 2026 at SAP Sapphire in Orlando. The press release says: “SAP Business AI Platform now unifies SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Business AI into a single, governed environment.” In the keynote, CEO Christian Klein called it the basis for SAP’s vision of the Autonomous Enterprise, “where agents run the business and you can focus on what truly matters”.

Since then, the rename has worked its way through SAP:

  • Product pages. SAP’s BTP product page now states that “SAP Business Technology Platform capabilities are now a core part of SAP Business AI Platform”.
  • Partner programme. SAP renamed the BTP partner competency to the SAP Business AI Platform competency on 30 June 2026. Existing holders moved over automatically.
  • Tutorials. In October 2026 SAP’s tutorials team retired the BTP name in user-facing text and kept technical identifiers untouched.
  • Admin consoles. Identity Authentication labels BTP subaccount applications as “SAP BAIP solution”.

What changed and what did not

The honest summary: the name and the scope changed, the plumbing did not.

Area Status after the rename
Product name SAP Business AI Platform (BAIP); BTP is now its integration and extension part
Scope Wider: Business Data Cloud and SAP Business AI (Joule, AI agents, AI Core) belong to the same platform
Running applications No migration announced; in the subaccounts we operate, Cloud Foundry and Kyma apps, Integration Suite flows, destinations and workflows keep running
Global accounts and subaccounts No change announced; structure and entitlements unchanged in the subaccounts we operate
Technical names Unchanged at the time of writing: btp CLI, cockpit.btp.cloud.sap, help.sap.com/docs/btp
Contracts No change announced. SAP still sells the BTP Enterprise Agreement and cloud credits under that name
Partner competency Renamed to SAP Business AI Platform competency on 30 June 2026

So this is more than a label swap, and less than a new product. It reads like the step from SAP Cloud Platform to BTP in 2021: the services you build on stay, the story around them moves. This time the story is AI agents grounded in business data.

What it means if you run extensions or integrations on BTP

Concretely, for a customer with a Sales Cloud V2 extension, a few Integration Suite flows to S/4HANA and some SAP Build workflows:

  1. Nothing to migrate. SAP has announced no migration. In our own subaccounts and those of our customers, nothing had to be redeployed and no URLs changed.
  2. Search for both names. SAP documentation, notes and community posts will carry both terms for a while. A search for “BTP” still finds most of the technical content.
  3. Update your own documentation gradually. Architecture diagrams, operating manuals and tenders can say “SAP BAIP (formerly BTP)”. There is no deadline; consistency matters more than speed.
  4. Read the next contract renewal closely. Check which AI services (Joule Studio, AI Core, agents) your credits cover and whether SAP bundles them differently than before.
  5. Plan AI on the same foundation. Agents only help when they can reach clean data and the right process. The extension and integration work you already have on BTP is exactly that foundation.

Nota bene: SAP mostly writes out the full name, SAP Business AI Platform. We use “SAP BAIP” as the short form, the same one SAP shows in its consoles, and keep “formerly BTP” on first mention so people searching for the old name still find us.

Spadoom’s view: we build on it every day

We do not watch this platform from the sidelines. Our own products run on it:

  • Engage, our extensions for SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2 (telephony in the agent desktop, WhatsApp, customer portal, custom extensions), runs multi-tenant on SAP BAIP in the EU region.
  • Pulse, our suite for SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud (production planning board, shop floor terminal, quality checks and a master data cockpit), uses the same pattern.
  • Customer integrations between S/4HANA Public Cloud and Sales or Service Cloud V2 run on Integration Suite, with monitoring and an owner for every interface.

For us the rename changed one thing in the daily routine: the label in the admin console. Our code, our pipelines and our customers’ subaccounts stayed as they were. What we do expect is that SAP’s new AI services will land on this platform first, so the extension pattern we use today is the one Joule agents will plug into tomorrow.

Prima vista, a new acronym is just one more thing to learn. In practice it is a useful prompt: check what you run on the platform, who owns it and what it costs. That is worth doing under any name.

If you want to know what you run on BTP today and how it fits the new SAP Business AI Platform, start with our SAP BAIP solution page or our beginner series, starting with what SAP BAIP is and how the account model works. Or ask us directly: we look at one flow or one extension with you and tell you what to keep, what to clean up and where AI makes sense.

FAQ

What does BAIP stand for?

BAIP stands for SAP Business AI Platform. SAP introduced it at SAP Sapphire on 12 May 2026. According to SAP, it unifies SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Business AI in one governed environment. SAP itself mostly writes the full name; the short form BAIP appears in SAP’s partner communication and in admin consoles.

Do I have to migrate my BTP applications to BAIP?

No. SAP describes the BTP capabilities as a core part of SAP Business AI Platform. SAP has announced no migration, and in the subaccounts we operate, Cloud Foundry and Kyma applications, Integration Suite flows, destinations and identity setup kept running without changes. Technical names such as the btp CLI, the cockpit address cockpit.btp.cloud.sap and the help portal path help.sap.com/docs/btp are unchanged at the time of writing.

Does the rename change my BTP contract or cloud credits?

SAP has not announced a contract change with the rename. Its pricing pages still sell the SAP BTP Enterprise Agreement and cloud credits under the BTP name. Check the wording at your next renewal and ask your SAP account team which AI services your credits now cover.

Is SAP BAIP the same as SAP Business Data Cloud?

No. SAP Business Data Cloud is the data layer, and it is one of the three parts SAP brings together under SAP Business AI Platform. The other two are the former BTP services (integration, extension, automation, identity) and SAP Business AI (Joule, AI agents, AI Core).

Why did SAP rename BTP?

SAP positions the platform as the foundation for AI agents that work inside business processes, which it calls the Autonomous Enterprise. CEO Christian Klein launched the SAP Business AI Platform at Sapphire 2026 as the basis for that vision. The new name puts AI first; the integration and extension work that BTP did is still underneath.
