What Is an SAP Gold Partner? And Why It Matters for Your CX Project
Dario Pedol
Founder & Managing Director
People ask us this more often than you’d think: “What does SAP Gold Partner actually mean?” Fair question. SAP’s partner tiers aren’t exactly self-explanatory, and the badge alone doesn’t tell you whether a firm can deliver what you need.
Here’s the short version: SAP Gold Partner is a certification level within SAP’s PartnerEdge programme. It means the firm has passed SAP’s vetting process, maintains certified consultants, and has a track record of successful implementations. But — and this matters — not all Gold Partners are alike. Some specialise. Some generalise. Some do SAP CX. Some haven’t touched CX since C4C was new.
TL;DR: SAP Gold Partners sit in the top ~1% of SAP’s 22,000+ partner ecosystem. The badge requires certified consultants, proven implementations, and annual audits. But for your project, specialisation matters more than tier. A Gold Partner focused on SAP CX will outperform a Platinum generalist on a Sales Cloud V2 rollout.
How Does SAP’s Partner Programme Work?
SAP’s PartnerEdge programme groups consulting firms into four tiers: Member, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Each tier has minimum requirements around revenue, certifications, customer satisfaction scores, and implementation track record.
The programme isn’t static. SAP reviews partners annually. Firms can move up or down based on performance. A Gold Partner that loses certified staff or receives poor customer reviews can be downgraded to Silver. Conversely, a Silver Partner that invests in certifications and delivers consistently can earn Gold.
What separates Gold from Silver comes down to three things:
- Implementation volume — Gold Partners have completed significantly more certified projects
- Consultant certifications — Higher ratio of currently certified consultants on staff
- Customer satisfaction — SAP surveys end customers directly; scores factor into tier placement
The tiers are not about company size. A 25-person boutique with deep specialisation can hold Gold status alongside firms with thousands of employees. What SAP measures is quality and consistency, not headcount.
What Does “SAP Gold Partner” Mean for Your Project?
When you hire a Gold Partner, you get a few concrete guarantees. First, the firm has been audited by SAP. Their consultants hold current certifications — not expired ones from three years ago. They’ve demonstrated they can deliver.
But here’s what the badge doesn’t guarantee: expertise in your specific product. SAP’s portfolio spans ERP, analytics, HR, procurement, supply chain, and customer experience. A Gold Partner that specialises in S/4HANA migrations may have zero experience with SAP Sales Cloud V2 or SAP Service Cloud V2.
Our experience: We’ve seen companies choose a large Platinum Partner for their CX project, only to discover that the CX team within that firm was two juniors with basic certifications. The Platinum badge was earned on the strength of their ERP practice. The CX project suffered.
This is why specialisation trumps tier. For a CX implementation — whether it’s Commerce Cloud, SAP Engagement Cloud (formerly Emarsys), CDP, or CIAM — you want a partner whose Gold status was earned doing exactly that kind of work.
The SAP CX Partner Landscape in 2026
The SAP Customer Experience space has changed dramatically. SAP retired the old C4C (Cloud for Customer) platform and replaced it with Sales Cloud V2 and Service Cloud V2 — a completely new architecture. This created a split in the partner ecosystem.
Some partners adapted early. They rebuilt their practices around V2, retrained their consultants, and started delivering projects on the new platform. Others are still running on the old C4C muscle memory, or quietly subcontracting V2 work to specialists.
The products in the SAP CX portfolio today:
- SAP Sales Cloud V2 — CRM for sales teams, replacing C4C Sales
- SAP Service Cloud V2 — Ticket management and customer service
- SAP Commerce Cloud — Enterprise e-commerce (Hybris heritage)
- SAP Engagement Cloud — Marketing automation (formerly Emarsys)
- SAP Customer Data Platform — Unified customer profiles
- SAP Customer Identity (CIAM) — Authentication and consent management
- SAP Loyalty Management — Points, tiers, rewards programmes
- SAP CPQ — Configure, Price, Quote for complex products
- SAP Field Service Management — Technician dispatch and scheduling
When evaluating a partner, ask specifically about V2 experience. How many V2 go-lives have they completed? Do they use V2 internally? Can they show you a working demo on V2, not V1?
How to Choose the Right SAP Partner (Beyond the Badge)
The tier badge gets you past the initial shortlist. After that, selection should be based on concrete evidence. Here’s what we recommend checking:
1. Product-specific references. Ask for 3-5 customer references who implemented the exact product you need. If you’re deploying Sales Cloud V2, references from 2024-era C4C projects are irrelevant.
2. Current certifications. SAP certifications expire. Ask for a list of currently certified consultants — not a total count of “certified professionals” that includes people who passed an exam in 2019.
3. Skin in the game. Does the partner use the product themselves? A firm that runs its own sales pipeline on Sales Cloud V2 understands the platform differently than one that only configures it for others.
4. Implementation methodology. How do they run projects? Waterfall? Agile? SAP Activate? A good partner has a clear, repeatable methodology and can explain exactly how your project will be structured.
5. Post-go-live support. Implementation is half the story. Ask about ongoing support, hypercare periods, and how they handle issues after launch.
6. Subcontracting. Some partners sell the project and then subcontract the actual work. Ask directly: “Will your employees do this work, or will you bring in subcontractors?”
Why Spadoom Holds SAP Gold Partner Status
Full disclosure — this is our company, so take the following with appropriate context. But the facts are verifiable through SAP’s partner directory.
Spadoom AG is an SAP Gold Partner headquartered in Zurich, with offices in Lugano, Vienna, and Tallinn. We specialise exclusively in SAP Customer Experience. We don’t do ERP. We don’t do HR. We don’t do procurement. Every project we deliver, every consultant we train, every certification we maintain is within the SAP CX portfolio.
We were among the first partners globally to go live with Sales Cloud V2 and Service Cloud V2. We use V2 internally — our own sales pipeline runs on Sales Cloud V2, our support tickets run on Service Cloud V2. We’ve filed 29 influence requests with SAP to shape the product roadmap based on what we see in production deployments.
We also hold official partnership status with AWS and Anthropic, which matters because modern SAP CX projects increasingly involve cloud infrastructure decisions and AI integration.
If you’re evaluating SAP CX partners, we’re happy to be on your shortlist — and equally happy to help you build that shortlist objectively, even if we’re not the right fit. The initial conversation is always free.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does SAP Gold Partner mean?
An SAP Gold Partner is a consulting firm that has completed at least 20 certified SAP implementations, maintains a team of certified consultants, and passes SAP’s annual quality audits. It’s the second-highest tier in SAP’s PartnerEdge programme, below Platinum.
How many SAP Gold Partners are there?
Globally, SAP has roughly 200-250 Gold Partners out of over 22,000 total partners. The exact number shifts as firms get promoted or demoted during annual reviews. In Switzerland and the DACH region, fewer than 15 firms hold Gold status.
What is the difference between SAP Gold and Platinum Partners?
Platinum Partners typically have 500+ consultants and global reach across multiple SAP product lines. Gold Partners are often more specialised — focused on specific products like SAP CX. For mid-market CX projects, a focused Gold Partner usually delivers better results than a generalist Platinum firm.
How do I choose the right SAP partner for my project?
Look beyond the badge. Ask for references in your industry, check how many consultants hold current certifications, verify they’ve implemented the specific product version you need (e.g. Sales Cloud V2, not V1), and confirm they do the work themselves rather than subcontracting.
Is Spadoom an SAP Gold Partner?
Yes. Spadoom AG is an SAP Gold Partner headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, specialising exclusively in SAP Customer Experience. We implement Sales Cloud V2, Service Cloud V2, Commerce Cloud, SAP Engagement Cloud, CDP, CIAM, CPQ, FSM, and Loyalty Management.
